ASHP OVERVIEW

At Brit Home Design & Build, we specialise in the technical transition from fossil fuels to electrified heating. Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are the cornerstone of this transition, extracting low-grade thermal energy from the outside air and upgrading it to provide 100% of a property’s heating and hot water requirements. Our engineering-led approach ensures that your ASHP is not just "fitted," but fully integrated into a balanced hydraulic system designed for maximum seasonal efficiency and long-term reliability.

THE FUTURE OF DOMESTIC & COMMERCIAL HEATING

We provide end-to-end ASHP solutions, from initial feasibility and emitter sizing to the installation of high-capacity unvented cylinders and smart weather-compensation controls. By focusing on low-flow temperature design, we ensure your heat pump operates at its peak Coefficient of Performance (CoP), delivering up to 4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity consumed.

THE SCIENCE OF ASHP

Room-by-Room Heat Loss Analysis
A heat pump will only perform if the building’s heat loss is accurately calculated. We perform detailed BS EN 12831 calculations for every room to determine the exact heat required at a -3°C external temperature, ensuring your heat pump is neither under-powered nor prone to inefficient “short-cycling.”

Emitter & Pipework Sizing
Because heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, radiators often need to be resized. We calculate the required surface area for every radiator and ensure that internal pipework diameters are sufficient to handle the higher flow rates required by a heat pump system.

Acoustic Planning (MCS 020)
Planning permission for heat pumps often relies on noise levels. We conduct formal MCS 020 noise assessments during the design phase to ensure the external unit is positioned correctly, maintaining a quiet environment for you and your neighbours while complying with local authority standards.

Smart Weather Compensation
Our installations feature external sensors that communicate with the heat pump. As the outside temperature drops, the system automatically adjusts the internal flow temperature. This “weather compensation” ensures your home stays at a constant temperature without the heat pump having to work harder than necessary.

Coefficient of Performance (CoP) Optimisation

The secret to a successful ASHP installation is efficiency. We design our systems to operate at low flow temperatures (35°C–45°C), allowing the heat pump to achieve a CoP of 4.0 or higher. This means for every 1kW of electricity used, the system generates 4kW of heat, significantly reducing operational costs compared to direct electric or gas heating.

Monobloc vs. Split System Expertise

We offer technical guidance on the best architecture for your property. Whether you require a Monobloc (all-in-one external unit) for ease of installation and space-saving, or a Split System (refrigerant link to internal unit) for maximum efficiency in colder climates, our engineers ensure the configuration matches your building's specific thermal needs.

High-Temperature R290 Technology

For retrofit projects where traditional radiators are being retained, we specialise in R290 (Propane) Heat Pumps. These advanced units can achieve flow temperatures of up to 75°C, making them an ideal "drop-in" replacement for gas boilers while utilizing a natural refrigerant with an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

What Makes Us Stand Out?

We deliver technically superior ASHP installations that balance carbon reduction with exceptional thermal comfort.

DATA-DRIVEN DESIGN

We don't use "rules of thumb." Every ASHP system we install is backed by a 20-page technical design report tailored to your property’s specific fabric.

MCS-ALIGNED EXCELLENCE

Our commitment to MCS standards ensures that your installation is eligible for the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant and meets all UK safety codes.

TURNKEY INTEGRATION

We manage the entire process: from upgrading your electrical consumer unit to the final commissioning of your smart thermostat and hot water system.
